SKY NEWS David Cameron’s plans for cutting immigration have come under fire from the Czech Republic’s Europe Minister. Tomas Prouza posted an image of Czech World War Two fighter pilots to ridicule the PM’s ideas for curbing immigration to Britain.
Tomas Prouza was angered by the suggestion that immigrants should only be allowed to claim welfare benefits after they had been in the UK for four years. In response he tweeted a picture of Czech pilots who fought in the RAF during World War Two. It was accompanied by the words: „These Czechs ‚worked‘ in the #UK for less than four years. No benefits for them?“ He had previously tweeted: „Cameron’s spech on migration: taxing people according to their nationality? What other criteria will come next?“
Mr Prouza’s remarks were lauded by other Twitter users. One, Visegrad Plus, wrote: „Quote of the day!“ Another, PAT BURT, said: „Had an old pal who was a Polish Pilot in WW2 Vital part of the ‚FEW‘.“ Poland’s Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz was also critical of the proposals. In a statement she said: „Poland will not agree to changes undermining the principles of the EU’s single market, specifically the free movement of people.“
The response from the European Commission was more diplomatic, however. „These are UK ideas and they are part of the debate. They will have to be discussed without drama and should be discussed calmly and carefully,“ a spokesperson said.
